Cllr Rosanne Kirk, representing Birchwood for Labour, was sworn in today, May 17th, as Mayor of Lincoln.

She welcomed the people from communities across Lincoln in a ceremony at The Guildhall and Stonebow, where the council regularly meet.

On the topic of students, she said:

“Students are essential to our city. Since the university was created it has had a really positive impact on the city economically.

And obviously going forward, students will stay in the city and contribute, so they’re really important.

It’s important to me being a previous student myself in the 1980s, I have a lot of empathy towards students. It’s important for the city.”

She will be taking over the role from the former mayor and fellow Labour councillor, Cllr Jackie Kirk for Glebe ward.

When asked if the past mayor handed on any words of advice she said:

“Just be confident and enjoy the year, like she has.

She’s had a great year, so that’s what I’m gonna try and do.”

The new mayor is active on Twitter, with her account ‘@Rosiecosy’ having over a quarter of a million tweets.

She has promised “the mayor will be arriving in the 21st century” with the creation of separate mayoral TikTok and Instagram accounts, alongside a Mayoral Twitter account.
